In the current economic climate starting a new business is an exceptionally difficult task which involves high risks including a considerable risk of outright failure. However, with effective management these risks can be minimised to provide the business with the best chance of success despite the current market. One way in which this can be achieved is by streamlining business infrastructure so that the fledgling business can be established with minimum investment and therefore minimum risk. This can be achieved by outsourcing critical but expensive business processes to third party companies.
Many businesses require extensive internet fulfilment services when they are involved in direct sales to the general public. Direct sales are by far the most cost effective and streamlined means of offering products to the general public. However, even with direct sales there are many infrastructure costs associated. These include the construction and equipping of a warehouse facility with state of the art technology in order to ensure an efficient direct sale service. The costs associated with such construction and equipping are considerable and can represent a significant obstacle to the beginning of business operations for many start-up companies. Moreover, mailing fulfilment requires a number of specialist technologies which can be expensive to purchase and put into operation. Outsourcing these services to another company eliminates the construction and equipping costs which can amount to such an
obstacle for a start-up business.
Even when the company is fully established and has finished constructing and equipping the warehouse and dispatch facility, the costs do not end there. Such facilities require a significant amount of money for day to day operations as operational costs are numerous and varied. The high level of automation required for effective internet fulfilment services places a large demand upon energy but also requires significant levels of maintenance and servicing. These costs are ongoing and must be paid on a regular basis in order to remain operational and provide an efficient service. On top of this, every aspect of the storage and dispatch process but especially mailing fulfilment requires a significant labour force. This labour force must be paid regularly and many other costs associated with a labour force soon add up. However, by using a third party company for all internet fulfilment services the business can eliminate all operating costs and ensure that the business is sustainable over a period of time.
Of course using a third party company in order to fulfil all of the company’s storage and dispatch requirements does not eliminate all expenditure from the business altogether. Rather, the expenses of operating such a service are consolidated into a single regular fee which is paid to the third party fulfilment service. This ensures that the company’s expenses are not only reduced but are more manageable for the business. The use of such services can make the difference between a start-up business being sustainable and the required capital being unattainable in both establishing and operating the business.
